About Gustine

Gustine is a city 5,520 located 29 miles west of Merced.

Gustine is called the "Festival Hub of the Valley" and is home to the nation's largest Portuguese OLM (Our Lady of Miracles) Festa with over 20,000 attendees. Gustine welcomes a relatively high concentration of ethnic Portuguese-American residents, many of whom can trace their heritage back to the town's sister city of Azores, a cluster of nine major islands off the coast of Portugal.

Established in the early 1900s, Gustine is named after an early California land baron's daughter that liked to get "gussied up". When she was thrown from her horse and lost her life, the town started calling itself Gustine.

Gustine is a friendly community of 5,000 that enjoys a low crime rate, great schools, and a quality of life that reflects a more relaxed era.
